Renata keeps us "in the know" via Community Hour

At Unity 101, it’s all about community, with specialised programmes serving the diverse communities across Southampton. One programme, tailored to simultaneously reach all communities, is the Community Hour, a weekday programme which broadcasts from 3pm-4pm.

Community Hour is a platform for local organisations to reach Southampton’s diverse communities whether to raise awareness of current issues, promote their services, stimulate discussion, or to provide advice.

One such Community Hour is hosted by presenter and community activist, Renata Bogus, where every Monday she invites some of the City’s leading figures into the studio to discuss community affairs and local initiatives. Since starting in June 2014, Renata’s Community Hour has grown from strength to strength gaining an audience of people who want to stay “in the know” about what’s going on locally. Says Renata, “Community Hour is an opportunity for local organisations to build relationships with the community. I really enjoy presenting it and I like to encourage people to become more involved in their communities. People should listen because it’s about you and the issues you are dealing with in your everyday life.”

Renata prides herself on interviewing prominent local figures, with former guests including Councillor Simon Letts, Leader of Southampton City Council; Councillor Dave Shields, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, to discuss the City's health and social care provisions for diverse communities; Don John, Race, Equality & Diversity Consultant and Coordinator of Southampton’s Black History Month calendar, to discuss the City’s Black History Month events and provisions; and Dr. Graham Giles MBE, World Bank for Justice, and Founder of Hampshire Charity “Europe to Europe”, for a discussion about human rights, health and justice. She says, “My guests are mostly from the front pages of the local newspapers, they all have something to say, so our discussions are always plentiful.”

Tune in to Renata’s Community Hour on Mondays from 3pm-4pm on 101.1FM Southampton or via the Listen Live link on our website.
