Unity 101 presenter, Veronica Gordon, has gained a place on ITV’s prestigious news trainee scheme.
Veronica, a presenter on our African Caribbean programme, was inspired to aim for a career in television news after doing work experience at ITV News Meridian in August last year. Over the few days, she worked alongside ITV Correspondent, Andrew Pate, following her story idea from planning, through to broadcast.
Veronica said: “I had the most amazing time – from the buzz of the newsroom, to being out filming on location, and to watching the reporters at work. The Meridian team are amazing and, in those few days, I knew I wanted to join them and decided to build on my radio and broadcast journalism experience to aim for a career as a video journalist.”
Determined to pursue her dream, Veronica took a five-month break from her job to do the required industry-standard NCTJ Journalism training, as an intensive fast-track programme.
Robin Britton, Head of ITV News Meridian, said: “We're delighted to have Veronica Gordon joining us - she brings to Meridian her wealth of experience and contacts from her award winning show on Unity 101 and this will all help to bring in a range of great stories for our nightly news programme.
“The ITV News Trainee scheme is regarded as one of the best in the country, offering training in TV production, editing, web journalism and camera work. It's a great foundation for a career in broadcasting & online and our previous trainees are now Programme Editors, Presenters and Correspondents in ITV News and beyond.
“Unity 101 helped Veronica develop and hone a range of great media skills that we can now build upon and we know she'll be a great addition to our award winning team."
