The cast of Unity 101 community radio are celebrating the launch of the new radio drama Stand By Me on Thursday 25th May 2017 at 6pm at Unity 101 Radio, 107 St, Mary’s Road Southampton, SO140A. Guest attending will be Hampshire Police, Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire & IOW Michael Lane, Football Beyond Borders, NST and YMCA Newtown Youth Centre.

Stand By Me tackles the theme of racist hate crime and was devised by local writer/director partnership of Anna Carr & Catherine Wright based on the input and experiences of the young people at Newtown Youth Center.

“The play is based around real experiences, and looks at hate crime from the point of view of victims and perpetrators” said Project and station manager Ram Kalyan. “It’s a difficult subject that can affect very many people. We are pleased to be making our contribution to tackling hate crime in this innovate way”.

Co writer/director Anna Carr said “It is a dark topic and the young people we worked with were very generous sharing their ideas and experiences. We could not have written it without them”.

The cast of Stand by Me includes experienced Unity 101 presenters along with young people from Newtown Youth Center.
