Hands of Love 3
Hands of love 3 –Saturday 31st August 2019 from 10am at Guildhall Square, Southampton, S014 7DU
It has been a summer filled with running successful major community events for one Southampton-based voluntary organisation. And it is kicking off Autumn with another.
Multi award-winning Unity 101 Community Radio is gearing up for its annual ‘Hands of Love’ event. This year, celebrating the arts of Southampton’s diverse communities with an open-air art experience called ‘Home Back Home’. People from eleven different communities across the city Afghan, English, Chinese, Gujarati, Indian, Polish, Caribbean, Punjabi, Gambia, Bengali and Pakistan will be working with professional artists to create cultural and traditional art from “back home”. 11 gazebos will house each region’s artwork – transforming each gazebo into an insight of “back home” so visitors can learn more about the various cultures and communities who live in the city.
Hands of love 3 will take place on Saturday 31st August 2019 from 10am at its usual location of Guildhall Square in Southampton. The event is completely free and visitors will, once again, be treated to a free lunch – a feast of ethnic foods – cooked by mosques, churches, temples and gurdwaras from across the city plus chalk art by showcase gallery.
For the local people who are showcasing their art and culture, Hands of Love 3 will also be an immersive art experience as, during the months leading up to the Guildhall Square event, they will work with artists to produce their artwork.
Following the event, their artwork will be displayed in Southampton’s John Hansard Gallery, one of Britain’s leading public art galleries. It will then be displayed in Unity 101’s Arts Hub, community art gallery, until October.
Dr. Ram Kalyan “Kelly” Station Manager said, “Last year’s Hands of Love celebrated 70 Years of our NHS and the ethnic contribution made by Black, Asian, Ethnic and minority people from around the world. This year we want to share diverse arts and cultures, and create a truly immersive, educational and entertaining experience for visitors. Hands of love as the name suggests means wherever you come from and whoever you are, we all are human beings, and we should all extend a hand of love to each other.”
