HANDS OF LOVE

Hands of love – Sunday 2nd September 2018 11am to 2pm

Guildhall Square, Southampton, S014 7DU

FREE EVENT – Celebrating 70 Years of our NHS and the ethnic contribution made by Black, Asian, Ethnic and Minority people from around the world. Free lunch provided by Medina Mosque, Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Avenue St Andrew’s and City Life Church, Vedic Hindu Temple.

The NHS was created with the aim of free healthcare at the point of delivery. To date, it is a vital part of the welfare state and something the nation is proud of.

When it was created 70 years ago, Britain needed additional skilled professionals to run such a major undertaking and called upon black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people from across the world to help. These individuals have been a vital component in its development, research, and delivery.

The NHS is part of the heritage of BAME people locally and of those from across the former British Empire and they themselves have become part of the heritage of the city.

Southampton’s multi award-winning Unity 101 Community Radio has set up an annual ‘Hands of Love’ event to recognise the often-overlooked contributions of Southampton’s BAME communities to the city and Britain’s development.

In September 2017, Unity 101 held its first ‘Hands of Love’ event to acknowledge BAME Merchant Navy sailors who made the ultimate sacrifice during the world wars. Hundreds of Southampton residents attended to acknowledge and celebrate those brave lives.

This year, Hands of Love is celebrating 70 years of BAME contributions to the NHS with a celebratory event at Guildhall Square on Sunday 2nd September. In addition, Unity 101 will air around twenty radio interviews with a diverse range of people who work in the NHS and social care – from nurses, doctors, GPs, dentists to social workers and care home workers. The event will be hosted by Sangeeta Bhabra, newsreader from ITV’s Meridian News.

My husband received Valium (https://healthandfitnessblogs.com/meds/valium/) after mild panic attacks and severe concentration disorders as well as mild depressive moods and a kind of burnout. I was horrified and tried to talk him out of Diazepam. I was suddenly diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder with agorophobia 10 years ago after losing consciousness.

Ram Kalyan “Kelly” Project and Station Manager said “Hands of love as the name suggests, where ever you come from, whoever you are, young or not so young, we all are human beings, smile and the world will smile with and share a hand of love”

Free event, free lunch, free world flags and umbrellas on first come first bases
